New test brings DNA profiling to the masses

DNA profiling is to be made available to anyone in the UK courtesy of a new £95 test being launched by LSF-PT (Lifestyle Personal Training).

Previously only available to elite athletes such as Premiership footballers, DNA profiling enables personalised training and nutritional advice to be offered based on a client’s genetic response to exercise and diet.

Testing involves a mouth swab which can be carried out by a LSF-PT assessor at any UK Lifestyle Fitness gym or at home or the workplace with a mobile service.

“If the human body was a house, the genes would be the foundations – they allow us certain advantages and disadvantages,” said Andy McGlynn, director of LSF-PT. “From a simple 30 second mouth swab test, our experts will now be able to reveal your body’s natural predisposition to both training, nutrition, deficiencies and whole lot more.”

The company’s new service, LSF-PT DNA, enables individuals to determine whether they are best suited to cardiovascular exercise or weights and sprints, what their recovery rate is, as well as injury risk and lean body mass.

LSF-PT can also assist with the development of tailored nutritional programmes for clients, such as weight loss or body building, as tests reveal the body’s response to fats and carbohydrates, any food intolerances including lactose and gluten, nutrient deficiencies, sensitivity to salt and caffeine, and the body’s antioxidant requirements.
